CrowdStrike crash hit 8.5 million Microsoft Windows devices

Tech giant gives clearest picture of scale of largest IT outage in history yet.

Microsoft estimates 8.5 million Windows devices around the world were affected by the faulty software update from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike.

It is the first time a number has been put on the incident, which continues to cause widespread disruption around the world.
