ROGERS, Lionel

Lionel Rogers founded Talon Technology with Sir Peter Maire in the front room of Sir Peter’s house more than 30 years ago.

The company, which later became Navman, was sold to North American conglomerate Brunswick in 2004 for $108 million.

While maintaining interests in MacRennie Construction and app maker Experieco, Rogers is best known for his car collection.

He and wife Mary are known especially for their love of French-made Bugatti sports cars and take an active role in car clubs. The pair as well as their children participate in events up and down the country. Rogers has described Bugattis as “art on wheels.”

They live in a marble-clad mansion in Auckland’s Parnell, valued at $18m.
