Labour’s reform agenda has bruised our public service
OPINION: After a glory few years of public servants being told to find any opportunity anywhere to spend money, they are now being asked for budget cuts.

Over the last five years the size of New Zealand’s public service has grown by 15.3 per cent. This is compared to a private sector growth of 9.4 per cent. This means that almost one in twenty people employed in New Zealand are nominally employed by the government, either central or local.
