Minimum wage to lift to $23.50 an hour

Small increase in minimum wage comes after large increases under Labour.

Young people were more likely than any other group to be earning the minimum wage.

The minimum wage will rise just 1.5% next April from $23.15 to $23.50 an hour.

Workplace Relations and Safety Minister Brooke van Velden said the Cabinet decision met the New Zealand First-National Party coalition commitment to moderate increases in the minimum wage each year.
