Government to tighten rules on farm-to-forest conversions

New rules are being introduced to slow the conversion of farmland to forestry.

The Government is giving local councils the power to decide which land can be used for plantation and carbon forests through the resource consent process.

It comes in the wake of growing criticism that too much productive farmland was being converted into forestry to gain carbon credits.
