Covid-19 pandemic helps cut greenhouse gas emissions

The biggest fall in emissions came in the June quarter 2020, when the country was largely in lockdown.

The Covid-19 pandemic might have had a negative impact on New Zealand but one of its positive consequences has been a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

Statistics New Zealand said in the year to the end of March 2021 emissions fell 4.5% or 3,815 kilotonnes.
