Coalition backs off proposal to can forest sinks as offset for emissions
Environment Parliamentary Commissioner Simon Upton argued net zero emissions could be reached by 2050 but still be emitting carbon about half of today’s levels.

The government today ruled out a recommendation that forest sinks not be used to offset carbon dioxide emissions.
That recommendation was made in the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment Simon Upton’s report on farms, forests and fossil fuels.
