Queenstown Airport to install $20m runway bumper system

No plane has ever overshot the 1889-metre runway at the country's fourth busiest airport.

Queenstown Airport has budgeted more than $20 million to install an engineered materials arresting system to stop any aircraft overshooting its 1889-metre main runway.

It will be the first such system put in place at any New Zealand or Australian airport.
