ATR readies STOL prototype for first flight 

Air New Zealand could benefit from this new ATR 42 variant.

French manufacturer ATR is busily preparing its STOL (short takeoff and landing) variant of the popular ATR 42 family of regional airliners. Based on an existing ATR 42-600 airframe, the prototype F-WWLY is gradually being fitted with the modifications to operate from runways of 800-1000m.
