Queenstown Council on hook for billionaire’s legal costs

Council criticised by Environment Court for flip-flopping on its original opposition to Silicon Valley venture capitalist Peter Thiel’s plans for a luxe getaway in Wānaka.

Consent denied for Thiel’s ‘bolthole’ at Damper Bay.

It may be small recompense, but US tech billionaire Peter Thiel will no doubt take some solace from Queenstown Lakes District Council having to pay about a third of his latest legal bill.

That was after his appeal against the council’s decision not to sign off on plans for his Wānaka luxury lodge
