Contractor law rejig misses chance for third way, say lawyers

The Government should have created a new kind of worker status for the gig economy – the dependent contractor – some say.

The proposed employment law amendments follow last month’s Appeal Court decision on Uber drivers.

The Government’s plan to reform the law distinguishing contractors and employees is a missed opportunity and may even lead to more litigation, say some legal experts.
