What’s the point of green bonds?

ANALYSIS: With green bonds not necessarily green or cheaper for issuers, higher standards will be required to deliver on promises.

The market capitalisation of green bonds on the NZX grew 68% in the year to August.

This season, the bond market is mostly wearing green.

The fashion is as inescapable as flares in the 70s. In the past six months, we’ve had green bonds from Genesis, Goodman, Precinct, Transpower, and this week an offer announcement from Contact Energy.
