Unemployment ticks up to 4.8%, just below estimate: Stats NZ

Meanwhile, the employment rate fell in the September quarter as more people were pushed out of jobs or exited the workforce.

Unemployment has risen to the highest level since late 2020.

Unemployment has risen but not as high as many economists and the RBNZ predicted, according to fresh figures today.

Stats NZ data shows unemployment rose from 4.6% in the June quarter, to 4.8% in the September quarter.

The RBNZ’s August Monetary Policy Statement expected unemployment to rise to 5%
