Economy slumps 0.6% in December quarter

Stats NZ data points to widespread falls in economic activity, with a recession expected this year.

New Zealand’s economy contracted in the December quarter, with a slump in manufacturing leading the fall, according to Stats NZ.

Data showed a 0.6% decline in GDP in the final three months of 2022, following a revised 1.7% expansion in the September quarter.

Overall, annual GDP expanded 2.4%, down
