DLA Piper New Zealand has welcomed Daniel Street as a new Auckland-based partner in its Litigation and Regulatory Practice Group.

Street has most recently worked at Chapman Tripp and, before that, Slaughter & May in London.

“I tend to describe myself as a commercial litigator acting for large corporates,” he said, “in particular in banking and financial services, on disputes and regulatory investigations. With that background, I’ve been advising clients on ESG (environmental, social and governance) risks, greenwashing, and climate-related disclosures. My aim is to help clients to be ambitious and bold in achieving their climate goals without undue risk.”

Street has a strong client focus and values the sheer variety of work that litigation and regulatory practise brings.

In the past 18 months, he has advised banks, financial service providers, listed issuers, and large corporates on climate-related disclosures and ESG issues. At DLA Piper, he will be working with a strong team of international experts in the field and is looking forward to unlocking that expertise for New Zealand clients. Street also has extensive experience with regulatory investigations by the FMA, SFO, NZCC, and Inland Revenue.

“Daniel’s understanding of the sustainability and ESG regulatory landscape in New Zealand makes him an excellent addition to our global practice. His experience will supplement our global sustainability and ESG client offering, including our award-winning ESG due diligence service and our business advisory capabilities” managing director of sustainability and resilience Jean-Pierre Douglas-Henry said.

DLA Piper New Zealand managing partner Laura Scampion said: “We are delighted to welcome Daniel to the partnership. His extensive ESG experience, commitment to client service, and technical ability adds considerable depth and bench strength to both our litigation and regulatory law practice and the firm as a whole. His appointment reflects client and market demands as ESG becomes increasingly important to businesses.”
