Tourism Talent, a New Zealand leader in tourism recruitment, has announced its expansion into Japan with the launch of Tourism Talent Japan. As part of this growth, the company has brought in Troy Clarry as a new director of Japan, joining managing director Jason Hill to spearhead this new market.
Tourism Talent Japan leverages more than 30 years of combined Japanese market experience to offer tailored recruitment solutions in a market that is set to welcome 40 million visitors this year.
Recognising the increasing importance of bilingual professionals in Japan’s hospitality landscape, Tourism Talent Japan specialises in recruiting talent fluent in both Japanese and English.
“Japanese inbound tourism continues to break records, and meeting staffing requirements is getting harder and harder, especially bi-lingual talent,” Tourism Talent Japan managing director Jason Hill said. “Our approach focuses on understanding the unique culture, as well as speed, quality, and value.”
Director Troy Clarry said: “Having worked in Japan in leadership roles in hotels for over three decades, I fully understand the challenges the industry and the talent are facing. I see our role as connecting great people with great organisations.”
Hill brings more than 25 years of leadership experience in New Zealand’s tourism industry, with previous roles including head of Auckland Tourism, regional manager for Tourism New Zealand in Tokyo, and GM marketing with ChristchurchNZ. Governance roles included the board of Tourism Bay of Plenty, AUT’s School of Tourism and Hospitality advisory board, Pacific Asia Travel Association, and NZ Cruise Association.
With more than 20 years managing top hotels across Asia for Hyatt International and Ritz-Carlton Hotels – including in Japan, Bali, China, New Zealand, Saipan, and Taiwan – Clarry brings a wealth of hospitality expertise. Specialising in hotel openings, he played lead roles in launching more than 10 properties across Asia and Europe. Clarry served most recently in Japan as GM for Bulgari Hotels and Resorts – Tokyo Restaurants, including a Michelin-starred restaurant, cafés, and boutique chocolate production.
Returning to New Zealand, Clarry founded Katalyma Hotels and Hospitality, acquired Whangaparaoa Lodge, and added Kerikeri Park Lodge in 2017. He serves as a board member of Hospitality New Zealand, chairs the Accommodation Association NZ, and is an advisory board member at Crown Institute of Studies.
