High-profile couple, Tiana Epati and Matanuku Mahuika, have joined renowned Bankside Chambers.
Mahuika (of Ngāti Porou and Ngāti Raukawa) is one of Aotearoa’s leading Māori lawyers in private practice. Founder of Kahui Legal (a boutique firm specialising in Māori legal issues), he has more than 30 years’ experience in Commercial, Treaty of Waitangi, Māori Land and Administrative Law.
A former Crown prosecutor, Epati is a highly skilled litigator with expertise in serious criminal appeals and reviews. Named ‘Lawyer of the Year’ by LawFuel in 2019, she was also the fourth woman and first person of Pacific descent to be appointed president of the New Zealand Law Society.
With both having long-standing relationships with several of the barristers at Bankside Chambers, Epati expressed she and Mahuika were drawn to Bankside given its reputation as “a leading centre of excellence and its progressive, modern, and inclusive approach to chambers”.
The pair will be a perfect addition to Bankside, being highly skilled and widely respected in their particular fields.
