Milk processor Synlait has recruited expat Kiwi Nigel Macdonald as operations director, stepping into the gap left by the departure of Mark Toomey in June.

The role has been undertaken on an acting basis by Matthew Foster in the interim.

Macdonald is currently general manager of manufacturing at Baladna Food Industries in Qatar and will join Synlait in November, subject to completing managed isolation and quarantine.

Baladna is Qatar’s largest dairy processor and farms cows at indoor facilities north of Doha.

Before joining Baladna in February 2020 Macdonald spent 10 years in Saudi Arabia at dairy group Almarai.

A graduate of the University of Canterbury, Macdonald began his career at the Dairy Board and Fonterra.
