Mon, 09 Aug 2021

The Spark New Zealand Board has appointed David Havercroft as a non-independent, non-executive director to the board. Havercroft’s appointment will take effect from October 1, 2021.

Havercroft’s career in the technology industry has spanned more than 35 years. Having worked as chief operating officer and chief technology officer at Spark New Zealand until 2017, he has also held executive and management positions in IBM Asia Pacific, Cable & Wireless and BT. He is currently a director on Connect 8, Southern Cross Cables, KiwiWealth, and was formerly a director of Kordia.

Spark New Zealand chair Justine Smyth, said: “We are delighted to have someone of David’s calibre joining our board. His skills and significant industry knowledge and experience will be vital ... where digital connectivity has become more important than ever.”

Havercroft said: “The telecommunications and technology industries are undergoing rapid transformation – a trend only exacerbated by Covid-19 and the need to adapt to a low-carbon future. This industry is pivotal to New Zealand’s future success.”

In accordance with Spark’s constitution, Havercroft will retire and offer himself for re-election at the annual shareholders meeting in November 2021.

Pip Greenwood

The board also announced that Pip Greenwood has decided not to seek re-election at Spark’s November annual meeting after taking on the role of chair at Westpac New Zealand from October 1, 2021. The board thanked Greenwood for her valuable contribution over the past three years.

The Spark board has an ongoing succession programme and will continue working to consider the relevant skills and experience required to support the business in delivering on its 3-year strategy to 2023.
