Southern Cross Healthcare has appointed Roger Cronin as the chief operating officer for its 10 wholly owned hospitals.

The newly created role is a key senior leadership position responsible for leading the day-to-day operations and performance of Southern Cross hospitals across New Zealand, and acts as a key link between the hospitals and the national support office.

Cronin said he was delighted to be joining the largest independent healthcare provider in New Zealand.

“I’m really excited to have joined Southern Cross Healthcare and support the business to deliver on its purpose to advance the provision of quality healthcare in New Zealand.

“This is a highly regarded healthcare organisation that offers excellent care and clinical outcomes.”

Originally from Queensland, Cronin has a wealth of experience as a health sector executive with a background spanning clinical and leadership roles across Australia, the UK, and the Middle East.

He joins Southern Cross Healthcare after 15 years as the CEO of PresMed Australia, a private surgical day-stay hospital business specialising in ophthalmology and ENT surgery.

Early in his career, Cronin held clinical leadership roles in large public hospitals and spent time working for the New South Wales Ministry of Health, equipping him with valuable insights into clinical governance and the intricacies of large-scale healthcare delivery.

Cronin holds a Bachelor of Health Science in Nursing from Charles Sturt University and is currently completing a Master of Business Administration.
