Simpson Grierson appoints new litigation partner

Simpson Grierson has announced a raft of new promotions, including that of senior litigation and dispute resolution lawyer, Nick Chapman, who will be joining the firm’s partnership, effective January 1, 2025. 

Alongside Chapman’s promotion to partnership, Simpson Grierson is also promoting several other lawyers including Chris Ryan, Jade Magrath, Josiah Koh, and Rachel Nightingale who will become senior associates; and Alana Harrison, Conor Masila, Grace Dimond, Hamish MacDonald, Henry King, Natalie Wilson, and Rachael Hodge who will become senior solicitors in the new year. 

Simpson Grierson chair, Pip Muir said: “These promotions are a real testament to the mahi that our talented lawyers put in every day, bringing value to our clients through their dedication, expertise, and pragmatic advice. 

“Nick is an incredibly talented lawyer with excellent commercial experience, who is highly regarded by our clients and our people, and I’m thrilled that he will be joining our partnership in the new year.” 

Based in Pōneke Wellington, Chapman has a broad range of legal experience with a focus on high-stakes, complex commercial disputes across different sectors and, in particular, commercial disputes that involve public elements. 

Chapman has appeared before the High Court, Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court, and represented clients across a broad range of disputes and industries, including commercial contracts, the Emissions Trading Scheme, judicial reviews, insurance, class actions, financial services, telecommunications, and technology. 

He is also an adjunct lecturer and teaching fellow at Victoria University’s Faculty of Law where he teaches the university’s compulsory course on the core skills of legal research, legal writing, legal analysis, and advocacy.    

Muir said: “Nick’s promotion to partnership, together with the promotion of our new senior associates and senior solicitors, will ensure our firm continues to bring expertise and value to our clients as a top-tier commercial law firm.” 

Chapman’s appointment is subject to meeting Law Society requirements.
