IT infrastructure and services company NTT Ltd has announced the appointment of Darren Ryland as head of cybersecurity for New Zealand.

In this role, Ryland will lead the cybersecurity team with a focus on helping organisations in New Zealand strengthen their network security, identify IT security issues to mitigate business risks, and help business leaders make more informed cybersecurity decisions.

Ryland brings more than 30 years of extensive experience in the cybersecurity and IT sector. Most recently, he was with Lexel Systems, where he developed Microsoft security specialisation capabilities such as Zero Trust Security frameworks and Secure Modern Workplace architecture. Ryland also previously worked at NTT (then known as Dimension Data) for 11 years specialising in the service provider vertical.

“Amid increasing cyberthreats to critical business infrastructure, businesses need to act fast and ensure their networks are secured and well-protected,” NTT New Zealand CEO Simon Gillespie said.

“Darren has a proven track record of operational excellence in network security and leading the charge with developing deployment models. He will play a key role in helping our local clients build a strong cybersecurity posture and educating them to make more informed business decisions.”

Ryland said: “Joining NTT was a natural choice for me. I ... found myself being drawn back to the company. As a leading player in the market, NTT provides cutting-edge solutions and tailored infrastructure that helps to fill the gap in the New Zealand market.

“I am delighted to be joining the team at such an opportune time to help shape the local IT space and help our clients develop strong cybersecurity practices.”

Growing its national presence in New Zealand, NTT has doubled down by launching a team in Dunedin late last year.
