Deputy chief executive roles created for Auckland and Wellington, as previous incumbent moves into strategic development role.

The New Zealand Institute of Economic Research (NZIER) has appointed two deputy chief executives and created a chief development officer role, as it looks to develop new services for public sector clients and boost its Public Good programme.
Principal economist Sarah Hogan has been promoted to deputy chief executive, Wellington. Specialising in health and social sector policy for more than 20 years, prior to joining NZIER, Hogan worked in the Office of the Chief Economist at the Ministry of Health and as analytics team leader in Strategy, Innovation and Performance at Capital and Coast District Health Board. Earlier roles included health and social policy roles in the Canadian public service and health technology assessment. She has also taught public policy-related short courses and Master’s level health economics courses at Victoria University.

Principal economist Christina Leung is now deputy chief executive, Auckland, recognising her leadership of the Auckland team. She is responsible for the independent consultancy’s economic forecasts Quarterly Predictions and analysis of its well-regarded Quarterly Survey of Business Opinion. Before joining NZIER in 2015, Leung worked at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand and ASB. Leung leads a wide range of work for public and private sector clients on topical issues facing the New Zealand economy, and has been an expert witness in many litigation cases involving remedial construction work.
The new roles have been created as former deputy chief executive of NZIER, Todd Krieble, takes up a new position as chief development officer for the organisation.
“This will be a pivotal role, responsible for ensuring that we continue to provide outstanding service and advice to our public sector clients and those who interact with the public sector, while growing our offer further, NZIER chief executive Jason Shoebridge.
“We’re focused on developing new service lines that we believe these clients will value as the Government implements its policies on social investment and improving the quality of regulation, supported by our insights and analysis."
Krieble will also focus on expanding NZIER’s Public Good Programme, seeking new opportunities to partner with organisations on developing insights that create conversations and advance New Zealand's understanding of economic challenges and opportunities.

Shoebridge congratulated Hogan, Leung and Krieble on their new roles.
“This is a particularly exciting time for our organisation as we evolve to serve our clients even better through significant economic, environmental and social challenges. This requires strong leadership and expertise, and the changes we’ve made recognise the contributions of some outstanding individuals whose work is having a real impact on the country’s future,” he said.
