Experienced director Mary-Jane Daly will replace John Minto in the new year.
Mary-Jane Daly has been appointed to the board of insurance company Partners Life, and will replace chair Jim Minto in the new year.
The appointment is effective from December 2, with Daly due to take over as chair on February 1.
Minto, who has chaired the company for eight years, will finish his term at the end of January, enabling a two-month handover period.
Daly, known as MJ, has more than a decade’s experience as a director, and currently chairs AIG Insurance and the Fonterra Shareholders’ Fund. She is also an independent director of Kiwi Property Group and Kiwibank, and is a member of MBIE’s Risk and Advisory Committee.
She has previously worked in banking and insurance in New Zealand and the United Kingdom, and her previous board experience includes Auckland Transport, Natural Hazards Commission Toka Tu Ake, Cigna Life Insurance, Airways Corporation, and the New Zealand Green Building Council.
Minto described her as the “ideal person” to lead the board “and to fulfil our strategy and brand promise”.
The company has acknowledged Minto’s “significant contribution” to the business, which was established as a startup in 2011.
During his leadership, he oversaw the acquisition of BNZ Life Insurance, which was completed in 2022. He also helped transition Partners Life to being a wholly owned subsidiary of Dai-ichi Life Group Holdings Limited in 2022.
The company is now one of the largest life and health insurance companies in New Zealand.
