NBR has appointed well-respected veteran broadcaster Grant Walker its first editor-in-chief-of-strategy.
Walker, who has more than 45 years’ experience in radio, television and online, has worked as a presenter and interviewer at NBR for several years and more recently has been intrinsically involved in the day-to-day running of RNZ National.
This involved implementing strategy along with people management and he also acted as head of radio over the summer periods since 2020.
He will start as NBR editor-in-chief-of-strategy on May 20, when he will be charged with creating and implementing strategy, identifying opportunities for further innovation and growth, engaging external stakeholders, and focusing on fostering and developing talent.
“I am very much looking forward to rejoining the talented and exceptional team at the National Business Review and working with everyone as we move forward in this digital media world,” Walker said. “NBR has always been at the forefront in digital innovation as a first-mover with its paywall subscription model, and I look forward to, along with the team, moving into the next phase of our growth.”
Walker’s appointment follows the appointment of another Auckland-based senior journalist, Brent Melville, who will join NBR from BusinessDesk in May. It also follows the return of former co-editor and senior journalist Fiona Rotherham and the appointment of two senior journalists in Australia, Lachlan Colquhoun and Dan Purves.
Also today, the annual Trust In News In Aotearoa survey for 2024 has named NBR the country’s second most trusted news source, equal with RNZ and behind only the Otago Daily Times.
We have also launched our new NBR Focus series, delivering deep dives on some of the country’s most influential industries.
This year NBR has offered free access to all its award-winning political and business news and analysis to university students across the country.
