NationalMap has announced the appointment of Geoff Bascand as a new director.
As director, Bascand will provide leadership, operational oversight, and help NationalMap forge stronger, more collaborative relationships with its public and private-sector clients.
Bascand has had a hugely successful career within the New Zealand public sector, most recently as deputy governor of the Reserve Bank and, prior to that, as government statistician and chief executive of Statistics New Zealand.
NationalMap said Bascand’s substantial experience in regulation, public policy, and implementation, his extensive networks and expertise in data governance are all a perfect strategic fit for NationalMap. “We’re delighted to have an independent director of Geoff’s calibre join the board.”
Bascand said he was excited about the role too: “As we face the challenges of transitioning to a low-carbon, highly productive economy, quality data will be key. NationalMap enables the data-driven decision making that will be at the forefront of successful transition and I’m really excited to be involved in that.
“I’m also thrilled to once again be part of an organisation that has data embedded in its DNA.”
