Simpson Grierson has appointed former ministerial policy adviser, Mark Baker-Jones, to lead its climate change practice as a special counsel.
Baker-Jones has worked extensively as a climate change policy adviser both here and in Australia. Most recently as adviser to Climate Change Minister James Shaw, on the development of a new climate change legislative regime for New Zealand.
Simpson Grierson chair Anne Callinan said “climate change adaptation is a strategic focus for us and we have been actively advising business in key sectors on how they can prepare for the upcoming changes.”
Prior to his ministerial policy adviser role, Baker-Jones was heavily involved in climate change policy development in Australia and holds an advisory board member position on the Queensland Climate Advisory Council.
His other previous roles include being a special counsel at DLA Piper (Australia) and a partner at DibbsBarker (now Dentons).
Baker-Jones has also held academic positions at the University of Queensland and Queensland University of Technology, and is an advisory board member at the Griffith University Law Futures Centre.
