KPMG executive chair Matt Prichard has announced the appointment of incoming chief executive Jason Doherty.
Doherty will step into the role on December 1, succeeding Godfrey Boyce who is retiring after 39 years with the firm, seven of those as CEO.
Doherty has held a range of leadership roles across KPMG New Zealand and has worked at both the local firm and KPMG in the United Kingdom. As a member of the national executive team, he led KPMG New Zealand’s people, performance and culture function and, more recently, became the national managing partner of strategy and investments, heading up the team that developed the current five-year strategy. He has also led sections of the Auckland audit business and currently leads the national Deal Advisory business.
While in the people, performance and culture role, Doherty and the team launched a range of diversity and inclusion programmes that laid the foundation for KPMG New Zealand’s focus and progress in this priority area for the firm.
Having been involved in the development of KPMG New Zealand’s purpose of fuelling prosperity for all New Zealanders, Jason said: “I feel deeply connected to our purpose and am energised and excited about growing our positive impact for our people, planet, clients and community.”
Prichard also acknowledged Boyce’s many achievements during his tenure – not least of which was leading significant growth through a global pandemic – including developing and leading a sector-led strategy that supported the firm’s significant growth.
Matt said: “I’m looking forward to working with both Godfrey and Jason on the transition and am confident that in Jason we have chosen a leader who respects KPMG’s past and is ambitious for KPMG’s future – a future he is looking forward to helping shape.”
