Kiwibank boosts digital and technology team

Ranjit Jayanandhan and David Palmer join Hamish Rumbold who was appointed late 2019.

Thu, 28 Jan 2021

Kiwibank has announced two senior appointments to its digital and technology leadership team. These complete a team that has grown significantly in experience since Hamish Rumbold was appointed as chief digital and technology officer in late 2019.

Ranjit Jayanandhan, who has been appointed as general manager, foundation tech experience hub, started this month and David Palmer takes up the role of general manager customer offerings and new platforms in February.

Palmer joins the team from his role as global programme director at Macquarie Bank in Sydney. Originally from the UK, Palmer has also worked for several high-profile European banks, including the Royal Bank of Scotland and Barclays.

Closer to home, Jayanandhan was working as technical area lead (engineering manager) at ANZ Bank New Zealand in the core banking space. He has a background in mathematics and engineering and worked in the US for more than a decade before moving to Aotearoa in 2016.

Jeremy Corkin-Kiwibank

In addition, Jeremy Corkin joined Kiwibank in October 2020 as general manager customer and front office experience hub. He was most recently head of engineering, leading teams across mobile, internet banking and micro-services platforms also at ANZ.

Tim Gardner, who joined Kiwibank last year, has recently been appointed to the new role of general manager security, risk, data, and architecture.

The most recent starter, Greg Montgomery, left his role as vice-president of cloud and platform engineering at Soul Machines, a world-leader in artificial intelligence (AI), to join Kiwibank in November 2020. He holds the role of general manager engineering. His career spans more than 25 years, during which he was also CTO at TVNZ.

Rumbold said the newly formed leadership team was incredibly passionate about creating unbeatable experiences for both our customers and our internal team leveraging technology.

“Over the past year, we’ve implemented new solutions and made some great gains, such as shorter turn arounds for home lending customers, a reduction in call-wait times, and we’ve implemented a digital ID solution for new credit card applications. Our digital and technology team are working more closely than ever with teams from around the bank, so that we can better understand the needs, challenges, and opportunities of both our customers and teams.”

Penelope Ma'alo Kiwibank

The digital and technology leadership team also includes general manager enterprise experience hub Penelope Ma’alo, general manager operations and delivery Darren O’Loughlin, general manager performance and planning Lucy Frater, chief adviser to CDTO Rob Varker, and executive assistant Kathryn Woodger.
