First Mortgage Managers – manager of First Mortgage Trust (FMT), New Zealand’s largest first mortgage trust lender – has announced Paul Bendall as the new chief executive.
Bendall joined First Mortgage Trust in August 2020 as general manager and has more than 20 years’ experience in the property, banking and finance industries.
First Mortgage Managers chair Michael Smith said: “Paul has spent the last 12 months working closely with the current CEO Tony Kinzett and the board, and has a thorough understanding of the business and shares our vision and goals for the future of FMT.”
Bendall said: “It’s a great honour and responsibility to take over the reins of the company ... We have over $1 billion funds under management and we have recently surpassed $1b in loans for the first time. We have a great team of people ... and I’m truly excited to lead the business into the future.”
Bendall will take over, on September 3, from long-time chief executive Kinzett, who is retiring after 15 years in the role. “The board members and I have enormous confidence in Paul, and I will be continuing to work closely with him over the next couple of months as I transition out of the company,” Kinzett said.
Smith added: “We would like to thank Tony for his leadership over the years and everything he has achieved as CEO, and we look forward to this new chapter under Paul’s very capable leadership.”
