Downer EDI Ltd (Downer) has announced the appointment of Mark Chellew as non-executive director and chairman-elect, effective from September 1, 2021. Chellew joins Downer as an independent director.
Downer chair Mike Harding said Chellew was an experienced chief executive and non-executive director, including in the industrial, building materials and transport sectors.
Chellew is chair of Cleanaway Waste Management Ltd and a Ampol Ltd director.
Chellew was formerly CEO and managing director of Adelaide Brighton and, prior to that, held executive positions at Blue Circle Industries and CSR. He was formerly chair of the industry body Manufacturing Australia and is a former non-executive director of Virgin Australia Holdings Ltd and Infigen Energy Ltd.
Chellew holds a Bachelor of Science (Ceramic Engineering) from the University of New South Wales, a Master of Engineering (Mechanical) from the University of Wollongong and a Graduate Diploma of Management from the University of New South Wales.
Mike Harding will retire from the board on September 30, at which time Chellew will become chair. Harding joined the Downer board in July 2008 and became chair in November 2010.
