Crimson Global Academy makes advisory board appointment

Five-time Olympian Barbara Kendall joins the board.

Wed, 09 Dec 2020

Crimson Education, the New Zealand education startup and university admissions support space, has appointed one of New Zealand’s greatest Olympians, Barbara Kendall, to the advisory board of Crimson Global Academy (CGA), which operates under the Crimson Education umbrella.

Kendall will work alongside former New Zealand prime minister Sir John Key, who was appointed to the board in November 2019. Kendall’s addition to the advisory board will support CGA as it builds relationships with sporting bodies to champion the education pathway for high-performance athletes, ensuring they do not have to sacrifice academics for sports. Beyond nurturing top sporting talent, Kendall will lead purpose-built programmes that support all students to develop a high-performance mindset, build resilience and think globally.

John Morris ONZM, the executive principal of CGA, and former principal of Auckland Grammar School, sees Kendall’s role extending beyond supporting the next generation of talent: “Barbara’s expertise makes her well-positioned to help build CGA as the current missing link in education for high-performance athletes as we work to create the holistic leaders of tomorrow.”

Crimson co-founder and chief executive Jamie Beaton said: “Many elite athletes find it difficult to attend a traditional school and put in the hours required to succeed in a high-performance environment.

“Barbara Kendall … is one of the few people who understands what it takes to consistently excel on the world stage. Online education is far better than just dropping out or skipping classes to train. With her guidance, CGA can help untether students from the traditional classroom and instead offer pathways to ensure young athletes can achieve academically as well as in their chosen sport or cultural pursuit.”
