Jesse Newson has been with Coffee Supreme for five years as group commercial director.

Iconic New Zealand coffee brand Coffee Supreme announces the appointment of Jesse Newson as the company’s new chief executive today.

Newson has been with Coffee Supreme for five years as group commercial director and for the past 18 months as co-leader of Coffee Supreme alongside group operations director Heath Cater.

Coffee Supreme founder and board chair Chris Dillon said Newson has been pivotal in navigating the business through Covid-19 and has been a key driver of the company’s transformation.

“Jesse has helped expand our 28-year-old coffee roasting business from a wholesale café supplier to also having a substantial direct-to-consumer e-commerce business in New Zealand and Australia, and a growing presence in more than 200 New Zealand supermarkets. We’re excited about seeing Jesse continue this growth,” he said.

While the past 18 months have been devastating for hospitality businesses, Newson said Coffee Supreme’s focus has been keeping its people and business healthy so it could help to rejuvenate its customers and industry.

“We’ve focused on supporting our cafés around the country in this challenging time, as well as steadily developing e-commerce so our loyal customers can drink Coffee Supreme whether they’re at home, at work or at their favourite café,” he said.

Dillon said the appointment is a significant step in the evolution of a great business and a much-loved brand. “We have confidence that Jesse is the ideal person to lead Coffee Supreme, nurture our wholesale customers, and move us forward in the exciting period of multi-channel growth that lies ahead.”

Coffee Supreme is one of Wellington’s original ‘big three’ roasting businesses that fostered the development of New Zealand’s café culture in the 1990s and 2000s.
