Burnett Foundation Aotearoa has announced the appointment of Liz Gibbs as its new chief executive.

Gibbs brings with her more than two decades of senior leadership experience across the charitable, philanthropic, and public sectors. Known for her strategic insight, collaborative leadership, and commitment to social impact, Gibbs is a values-driven leader deeply aligned with Burnett Foundation’s mission to prevent HIV transmission and support people living with HIV in Aotearoa.

She has worked across the commercial and for-purpose sectors in the UK, India, Canada, and Aotearoa – including most recently as group head of philanthropy at Perpetual Guardian and chief of social impact at the Selwyn Foundation.

“Liz is an exceptional leader whose passion, vision, and experience will help shape the future of our organisation,” said Burnett Foundation Aotearoa chair Jim Stuart-Black. “Her appointment reflects our ongoing commitment to bold, inclusive leadership and to building on the legacy of those who have guided our kaupapa over the years.”

Gibbs will officially begin her role on June 9, 2025. In the lead-up to this, she will be working closely with the leadership team and the board to ensure a smooth transition.

“I’m incredibly honoured to be joining Burnett Foundation Aotearoa,” Gibbs said. “It’s a privilege to lead an organisation with such a rich history and vital role in Aotearoa’s health landscape. I look forward to working alongside the talented team and communities to continue making a meaningful impact.”

Gibbs’ appointment follows a comprehensive executive search in partnership with Tribe.
