The Blues have announced the appointment of Chris Major as an independent director of Blues Rugby. She is the third representative appointed by the new private ownership group, the Better Blues Company Ltd.
Major has extensive experience in corporate affairs and stakeholder engagement and is currently Sky New Zealand chief corporate affairs officer. She joins recently appointed co-opted director Tracey Evans as the first two female directors on the Blues Rugby board.
“Our focus is to build a rugby franchise of the future – one that creates opportunities for both males and females and ‘turns our region blue’ in terms of fan support and community engagement. It’s personally special to be joining the board at the time of the formation of the nib Blues Aupiki team to compete in the inaugural women’s Sky Super Rugby competition,” Major said.
Blues Rugby chair, Don Mackinnon said: “Chris ... has an accomplished career and her broad experience in communications and stakeholder engagement, broadcasting, and New Zealand sport will further strengthen the board.”
