Cath O’Brien joins the Board of Airline Representatives of New Zealand in late August.
Experienced airline professional Cath O’Brien has been appointed as executive director of the Board of Airline Representatives of New Zealand (Barnz).
O’Brien has been head of regulatory affairs at Air New Zealand for the past five years. In that role, she worked closely with government agencies and industry groups, ensuring the operational and business needs of airlines are well understood.
She is passionate about aviation, the human connections it supports, and the value it brings to the New Zealand economy in trade and tourism: “I am proud to be asked to represent the members of Barnz as we work to rebuild air connections to New Zealand,” she said.
“Airlines, and suppliers to aviation, have worked extremely hard through Covid to maintain essential transport and cargo links. If aviation can operate efficiently to New Zealand, tourism can thrive, supporting New Zealand businesses.
“Air cargo services are enabled, supporting New Zealand’s supply chain. If we can ensure the recovery of air connections, and all that supports them, we make sure New Zealanders can travel to see whanau, to see friends, to experience the world.
“I am promised BARNZ offices have a view of the runway at Auckland. That might be the very best part of the job.”
O’Brien takes up the role in late August, replacing Justin Tighe-Umbers, who has shifted to the road transport sector.
