Astrolabe Wines have recently appointed Libby Waghorn Levett as general manager. Libby is the daughter of founders Simon Waghorn and Jane Forrest-Waghorn.
Previously working as a lawyer at MinterEllison in Queensland, Australia, Libby and her husband Peter Levett became shareholders in Astrolabe in 2018 and moved home to Marlborough to take a more hands-on role in the company in August 2019. Libby succeeds her mother, Jane, as GM.
Astrolabe is a true family operation. Libby joins sister Arabella Waghorn (brand manager and winemaking apprentice), cousin Sophie McLernon (business development and regional sales manager), and father Simon Waghorn (winemaker and director), at Astrolabe. Arabella’s partner, Finn, also works at the company, assisting in marketing and managing business systems.
Libby is looking forward to tackling the challenges emerging out of the Covid-19 pandemic and the new landscape that awaits on the other side. ‘It has really made us take a look at the way we work and the way we engage with our industry community. It feels like we have been in fast-forward for the past few weeks, and we have been working hard to make sure Astrolabe keeps pace while staying true to our roots as a small, premium, family-run wine producer.’
Libby assumed the role of general manager effective April 20, 2020. Jane will continue to work alongside her in her capacity as owner and director.
