Able appoints new chief executive

Dan Buckingham steps into the role at media accessibility company.

Fri, 29 Apr 2022

New Zealand’s media accessibility company Able has announced Dan Buckingham is the new chief executive.

Funded by NZ On Air, Able is Aotearoa’s leading provider of media access services, including captioning, subtitling, and audio description. Able makes media accessible for viewers who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, blind, and low vision, by providing these services for TVNZ, Discovery, and Sky.

Buckingham joins able from Attitude Pictures and will take over from current chief executive Wendy Youen who has been with the company since 2013. He said he has watched Able's evolution with admiration and is pleased to take the helm and help to continue the organisation’s growth.

“Buckingham has an exciting vision for where Able is headed. He is uniquely well placed to lead Able’s strategy for more media accessibility in New Zealand. The trust board is looking forward to supporting him to lead the organisation as chief executive,” Able board chair Lewis Grant said.

Buckingham will step into the role of chief executive on May 20, 2022.
