New role to be filled by Ben Smith.
Ben Smith has been appointed to lead the ABC Business Sales Corporate team focusing on mid-market New Zealand businesses with enterprise value in the $5 million to $50m range.
This key segment of the New Zealand economy has seen a substantial increase in interest as investors look to scale up through consolidation or access this large but relatively hidden part of the economy. As more business owners reach this scale, they are seeking growth capital or a new owner to continue the legacy they have created.
Prior to ABC Business, Smith was with ANZ and based in Singapore for nine years. He led a team supporting the expansion of Australia and New Zealand businesses into South-east Asia through Singapore. Smith also managed relationships with investors from Singapore into Australia and New Zealand helping them to identify and take advantage of investment opportunities. Smith built an extensive network working in close collaboration with Singapore and New Zealand agencies to help facilitate trade and capital flows between New Zealand and South-east Asia.
Before moving to Singapore, Smith led banking relationships with many of New Zealand’s large privately owned businesses, a sector he has retained great passion for and is excited to be reengaged with at ABC, which has been supporting this sector since 1986.
With Smith’s on-the-ground experience with New Zealand’s large privately owned companies, his experience identifying and supporting investment opportunities for foreign investors, and his financial services background, he is well placed to support companies to raise capital or transition to new ownership.
