Hospitality entrepreneur John Butterfield has benefited from one of Christchurch’s biggest property deals of the year, the $46 million sale of South City Shopping Centre.
Butterfield had managed the mall himself but it will now be in the hands of investor Terrence Stirling who has opted to use commercial managers.
The former builder, now in his early 70s, has been slowly winding up his hospitality and property empire built with business partner Ian McKenzie.
Now Butterfield spends a lot of his time in Fiji as well as in the Marlborough Sounds where he has a holiday home.
