Weaning Fonterra off coal

Giant dairy co-op Fonterra is installing a 20 megawatt electrode boiler at its Edendale site in Southland as part of its ongoing plan to get out of coal generation by 2037.

It said the forecast $36 million investment at Edendale would reduce its emissions by about 20% or 47,500 tonnes of CO2 a year,
