Unemployment falls to 11-year low

The drop was unexpected and was accompanied by rising employment.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to an 11-year low of 3.9%, confounding most economists’ expectations.

The June 2019 quarter figure was down from 4.2% in the March quarter and was at a level last seen in the June 2008 quarter when it was 3.8%.
