The launch of NBR Marketplace – free luxury real estate listings

It’s a bonus for real estate agents and subscribers.
The NBR Marketplace platform has been launched today to showcase premium property listings throughout New Zealand.
The platform is aimed at providing extra value to subscribers, some of whom will be in the market for luxury properties, while others may just enjoy the pleasure of viewing what they aspire to own.
NBR publisher Todd Scott said following the launch of this initiative, NBR’s web developer Neromotion is building out the platform so the media company can eventually offer free listings of other luxury items – such as cars, motorcycles, motorhomes, boats, and private jets.
There is no NBR editorial element to the platform – it is real estate agents showcasing their premium properties to NBR subscribers for free. It sits alongside and separate to the trusted independent news and commentary that makes NBR the go-to for leaders in government, business, and private investment.
Scott said after 50 years of selling advertising to support the newsroom, NBR is going ad free (for paid ads) from May.
“We won’t sell ads and we won’t sell your data, but we are happy to provide you access to each other as a benefit of you supporting New Zealand’s most established business news technology company.”
What constitutes a luxury property may vary slightly from region to region but they will all be ones that most would enjoy having in their investment portfolios.
New tech
NBR chief technical officer Michael Bach said the new marketplace was the first part of the website’s transition to the Silverstripe open source platform from Drupal, which was happening progressively over the next year.
“The shift to Silverstripe is in recognition of the need to constantly improve our customers’ experience and to provide a platform that can grow with NBR’s aspirations.”
There will be strict criteria around the listings but the aim is for this to remain a free service for NBR subscribers. Agents, who can use their NBR subscriptions to list properties, must be a member of the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand. At this stage, vendors will not be able to list their properties individually.
