Terms of trade rise 1.9% on record meat prices

Swine flu in China is driving up demand for meat.

The merchandise terms of trade rose 1.9% in the September quarter, as export prices rose more than import prices.  

The overall terms of trade were just 0.7% below the peak of late 2017, Westpac senior economist Michael Gordon said, when export prices for dairy and meat were also high.
