Scarce details in Labour’s Rio Tinto transmission deal

Labour will support Transpower at negotiating table, but what support looks like is unclear.

Details remain scant on Labour’s plans to keep Rio Tinto in New Zealand for longer than next August, after announcing it will negotiate a better deal on transmission costs in exchange for an “orderly exit” by the majority owner of the Tiwai Point aluminium smelter.
