Parker declines power scheme in ‘pristine’ river

Five year process ends in rejection for Westpower.

Environment Minister David Parker has declined an application to build a $80-100 million hydropower scheme on a remote West Coast river.

The Waitaha River scheme was proposed in 2014 by Westpower, a Greymouth-based electricity distributor owned by a community trust.
