Kevin Hickman, the NBR Lister who co-founded NZX-listed retirement village operator Ryman 40 years ago, has died aged 74.

Hickman died yesterday after a long illness. 

Born in Westport, Hickman grew up on the Canterbury Plains and left school to join the Police in Christchurch where he quickly rose
