January trade figures widen annual deficit to $6.4b

Increased demand for imported energy and manufactured goods as the economy picked up at the start of the year helped push the monthly trade deficit in January to a record $914 million, Stats NZ says.
The annual trade balance widened to a deficit of $6.4 billion from imports of $63.8b and exports
