The new owners of the Whakatāne Mill plan to increase the packaging plant’s capacity and make it more environmentally friendly.

In an 11th-hour deal, a consortium led by wealthy Irish paper and packaging businessman Dermot Smurfit has bought the mill, saving it from closure.
