High fuel prices keep lid on September quarter spending
Flat retail sales volumes fall short of expectations.

Retail spending was weaker than expected in the September quarter as higher prices for fuel crowded out other purchases.
Fuel sales rose 7.0% (or $150 million) while the seasonally adjusted value of total retail sales lifted 0.6% ($153m, including price changes).
